mobile-optimized websites
85% of your customers are searching for you on their phone. Its a fact. When was the last time you searched for a local business on your desktop ?
If you're like most people, you probably grabbed your phone. Your customers are doing the same thing. And if your website isn't built for mobile, you're losing them before they ever read a word.
3 second rule
More than 80% of local service searches happen on a mobile device. When someone's pipe bursts, they're not sitting at a desk Googling plumbers. They're on their phone, they need help now, and they're calling the first result that looks trustworthy and is easy to contact.
Your website has about 3 seconds to make that impression.
What "Mobile-First" Actually Means
Mobile-first design means the site is designed for the smallest screen first and scaled up to desktop, not the other way around.
A lot of older websites were built for desktop and then "made responsive" as an afterthought. The result is usually a desktop site that technically shrinks down to phone size, but is painful to actually use. Text is too small, buttons are too close together, images load slowly and menus are confusing.
A properly built mobile-first site is clean, fast, and easy to use with a thumb. The phone number is call-able. The contact form works without zooming in. The important information is visible without scrolling.
google loves mobile
As of 2026, Google uses mobile-first indexing. That means it evaluates and ranks the mobile version of your website, not the desktop version.
If your mobile site is slow, broken, or hard to use, your Google ranking suffers. It doesn't matter how great your desktop site looks.
7 red flags
These are signs your mobile site is hurting you:
Takes more than 3 seconds to load on a phone
Text is too small to read without zooming in
Buttons are small and close together
Images are cut off or don't load
The menu is hard to find or doesn't work
Your phone number isn't clickable (tap-to-call)
The contact form requires a lot of zooming and typing
Any one of these is enough to lose a customer. Most bad mobile sites have several.
hot to fix
If your site was built in the last two or three years by someone who knew what they were doing, it's probably fine. If it's older, or was built on the cheap, it's worth checking.
Pull it up on your phone right now. Try to use it the way a customer would: find your services, find your phone number, try to contact you. Is it easy? If not, your customers are feeling the same frustration.
